Armadillo drying rack

For this project I was asked to design a drying rack inspired by renowned architect Frank Gehry. The brief stipulated that it was to be made from aluminium and that it was only allowed to house cutlery & crockery for two people, no more & no less.
Initial inspiration was drawn from the Barcelona sea front structure 'El Peix', however the more I explored Gehry's work, the more my concept evolved.
I was intrigued by his unique bentwood furniture. I was particularly drawn to the ribbon shapes he uses to shapes that seem to transcend the conventions of style yet still provide function in true Gehry fashion.
Unlike most of his work, the final form of the drying rack is symmetrical about a longitudinal centreline. It is made up of arches of varying thicknesses that are attached to a centre spine. The spine is a single development of sheet metal that has been folded repeatedly.
